Prison Break is returning: Two stars are not in the new series

Prison Break, one of the most talked-about series of the 2000s, is preparing to return to the screen with a new production set in the same universe. The new series, titled Prison Break: Black Creek, will meet viewers via Hulu and Disney+.

The new project will not directly continue the story of Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows. Instead, it will tell a new prison story within the Prison Break universe, centered on different characters.

While it has been stated that filming for the series has begun, the first images shared show that the production will again lean into the high-security prison atmosphere. However, this time the story will be constructed from a different angle than the escape plan in the original series.

THE NEW STORY WILL TAKE PLACE IN BLACK CREEK PRISON

Prison Break: Black Creek will be shaped around a female correctional officer with a military background. To show how far she is willing to go for someone she loves, the main character will begin her duty at the fictional Black Creek Prison, which is designed as one of the most dangerous prisons in the country.

At the helm of the production is Elgin James, known for projects such as Mayans M.C. and The Outlaws. James will also serve as director for the new series, while Vanessa Joy Smith will be the cinematographer. Dawn Olmstead, one of the producers of the original Prison Break, is also among the names returning to the project. The series is being produced by 20th Television, a division of Disney.

In the cast, Drake Rodger will play the character Tommy, and Clayton Cardenas will play the character Michael “Ghost”. The cast also includes JR Bourne as Junior, Georgie Flores as Andrea, and Myles Bullock as the character Darius “Red”. Noah Emmerich will bring to life the character Callum Faulls, who has powerful connections in West Virginia.

First aired in 2005, Prison Break was built on the plan of Michael Scofield, who entered prison to save Lincoln Burrows, who was sentenced to death for a crime he did not commit. The series completed its first run in 2009, returned with a new season in 2017, and reached a total of 90 episodes.

A definitive release date for the new production has not yet been announced.
