Following the death of singer Nev, whose real name was Nevzat Doğansoy, his family has issued a statement regarding the allegations of family feuds and inheritance disputes that have surfaced. The artist's brother, Mehmed Zeyyad Doğansoy, who passed away on October 24 at the age of 57, stated through his lawyer, Gizem Sonay Kutlu Eryılmaz, that the allegations do not reflect the truth.
Nev, who reached a wide audience with the songs he performed in the 2000s, was laid to rest at Karacaahmet Cemetery. Following the artist's death, it was claimed that his relationship with his brother had soured during their mother Tülin Doğansoy's illness, that the two brothers had not spoken since, and that there was tension within the family due to inheritance proceedings.
The allegations further claimed that Doğansoy had gone to Nev's home to inspect his personal belongings, initiated probate proceedings for the artist's house, car, and summer home in Bodrum, prevented close friends from visiting the house, and that the sale of his guitar collection was being considered.
In the statement made on behalf of the family, these claims were described as "completely baseless," and it was stated that Nev was with his brother, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews, and loved ones during his illness. The statement read, "There has never been any feud, resentment, or hostility within the family as alleged."
The statement argued that the proceedings initiated after the artist's death were not intended as a personal asset investigation or a "hasty inheritance distribution." It was noted that these processes are legal procedures mandated by the state and official institutions, and that the transactions were being carried out by the family and financial advisors.
The family announced that the allegations made during their mourning period have caused them distress, and that they reserve their legal rights against news reports and posts they claim do not reflect the truth. The statement called on members of the press and the public to respect the family's grief and to rely only on official statements.
