According to the announcement by Turkish Airlines (THY), Turkish citizens holding ordinary (maroon) passports traveling to Montenegro after this date will be required to obtain a valid Schengen or Montenegrin visa to enter the country. The new regulation will change the entry requirements for the country, which previously allowed visa-free travel for up to 30 days.

Warning from Turkish Airlines for those traveling to that country: Visa-free travel for Turkish citizens is ending!

Turkish Airlines (THY) has issued an advisory regarding new visa requirements for Turkish citizens traveling to Montenegro starting November 1, 2026.

In line with the decision taken by Montenegro as part of its process to align with the European Union's visa policy, Turkish citizens holding ordinary (maroon) passports will be required to possess a valid Schengen visa or a Montenegrin visa upon entry into the country.

The announcement on the THY website stated, "Attention passengers traveling to Montenegro; as of November 1, 2026, Turkish citizens traveling to Montenegro must possess a valid Schengen or Montenegrin visa."

The statement noted that different visa requirements and entry conditions may apply to citizens of other countries, and requested that passengers check the current entry conditions based on their passport type on Montenegro's official website before traveling.

Under the current practice, Turkish citizens were able to stay in Montenegro for up to 30 days without a visa. It was reported that the new regulation also covers citizens of Belarus, China, Russia, and Saudi Arabia, in addition to Turkey.
