A day at the beach turns into tragedy in Tarsus, Mersin
Three out of five people who entered the sea at the Kulak neighborhood beach in Tarsus have lost their lives, while search and rescue teams continue to look for a missing child.
In an incident that occurred on Sunday in the Tarsus district of Mersin, a group of 5 people who came to the sea to cool off experienced difficulties shortly after entering the water due to waves and currents. One of the individuals who began swimming managed to reach the shore, but 4 people, including a child, went missing in the sea.
Following the panic, the 112 Emergency Service line was immediately notified. Coast Guard Command teams, the Mersin Provincial Police Department Underwater Group Command, medical units, and the gendarmerie were dispatched to the scene in a short time.
After search and rescue efforts conducted throughout the night, the lifeless bodies of 3 of the 4 missing individuals were recovered. Search efforts for the missing child are continuing without interruption. Teams are conducting scanning activities over a wide area in the region.
Mersin Governor Atilla Toros also arrived at the coastal area where search efforts are continuing unabated to support the teams and monitor developments on-site. The incident has caused deep sorrow among the local population.
