Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Özdemir: Mayor Muhittin is losing weight day by day, his immunity is dropping
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Büşra Özdemir was the guest for the October edition of the Antalya Journalists Association's (AGC) traditional "Press Chats" program. Stating that the detained Muhittin Böcek is losing weight day by day and his immunity is declining, Özdemir said, "Humanitarian conditions must be taken into account."
Meeting with journalists at the AGC premises, Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Büşra Özdemir made statements regarding the health status of the detained Muhittin Böcek, the ongoing investigation process, and personnel changes within the municipality.
Stating that the municipality is going through a difficult process, Özdemir said, "We did not take office during an easy period. We have faced numerous investigations and audits, but despite this, there has been no chaos within the team. We have believed in our Mayor Muhittin to the end. We are going through a difficult time, but we have not fallen behind in service for even a single day."
Regarding the investigation into Muhittin Böcek, Özdemir drew attention to the confidentiality order and said that the allegations should not be distorted in the media. Özdemir stated, "There is a confidentiality order on the investigation. We do not know the accusations in the file. However, we are learning a lot from the press. Some allegations should not turn into character assassination. Our mayor has undergone many audits in the past and has never shied away from being investigated. We are strong enough to answer every question," she said.
"OUR MAYOR'S HEALTH CONDITION REMAINS SERIOUS"
Stating that Böcek's health condition is sensitive, Özdemir called for him to be tried without detention, saying, "Muhittin Böcek is 63 years old and survives on 14 medications. He is going through a difficult process as a hypertension patient in the humid heat of Antalya. He is someone with a 27-year history of serving as mayor. For this reason, humanitarian conditions must be taken into account. Our mayor is losing weight day by day, his immunity is dropping," she expressed.
"THE ASSEMBLY IS THE NATION'S PODIUM"
Touching upon the recent tensions in the Metropolitan Assembly, Özdemir said, "The Assembly is not a place for arguments, but a place where the city's problems are discussed. Everyone is responsible, whether they voted or not. Leaving the assembly was not right. Politics should not take precedence over the city."
Responding to the "falling leaves" claims in the press, Özdemir stated that the departures in the municipality took place with mutual understanding, saying, "ASAT General Manager İbrahim Kurt served this city for years. The departures are being handled with mutual understanding and courtesy. We have not had any problems with any of our colleagues," she said.
