There are serious suspicions that an assassination attempt was made against former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. On Sunday afternoon, Assad told his bodyguards that he felt unwell and was having difficulty breathing, and asked them to call for medical help. Immediately after this request, Assad went into a violent coughing fit and struggled to breathe. He was given water, the situation was partially brought under control, but his breathing did not return completely to normal. When the doctors arrived, his condition had worsened significantly. Additional teams were sent to the place where he was staying to treat Assad on-site.
