Bandwidth throttling ban may be coming for X in Turkey: 'Has not appointed a representative'

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu attended the reception held at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

Responding to journalists' questions there, Uraloğlu said that the social media platform X could face new sanctions if it does not open a representative office in Turkey.

"WE WILL HOLD A QUADRILATERAL MINISTERIAL SUMMIT"

Providing information about the Development Road Project, Uraloğlu said, "We had been carrying out the Development Road Project as two countries, Iraq and Turkey, until now.

With our efforts over the last few days, we signed a quadrilateral agreement. We have also included the United Arab Emirates and Qatar in the process.

Because they will contribute to the financing, cargo supply, and operation of this project. This is a very serious stage, and we will hold a quadrilateral ministerial summit within a two-month timeframe.

However, we are already in constant contact weekly at the general manager level, both with Iraq and within Turkey.

There is an incomplete section regarding the project in Turkey's south and Iraq's north. Once that is completed, we have discussed everything up to the financing model. We want to take a position to start there this year," he stated.

Stating that offices related to the Development Road will be opened soon, Uraloğlu also said that a company could be established within the body of TCDD.

"A LEGAL REGULATION WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED"

The social media platform "X" had been warned to open a representative office in Turkey, and an advertising ban had been imposed on the platform in Turkey until a representative office was opened.

Upon a question regarding the development of this issue and whether a bandwidth throttling penalty would be imposed as an additional sanction, Uraloğlu said, "X still has not appointed a representative in Turkey.

A legal regulation will also be required regarding this. Our negotiations are still ongoing.

There is an advertising ban currently in effect. Following that, what you mentioned (bandwidth throttling) is also on our agenda," he said.
