Breaking News... Armed attack on a school in Manisa: 11 students injured, 2 in critical condition! First statement from the Ministry of National Education

An armed attack occurred at the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School located in the Turgutlu district of Manisa.

10 students were injured in the attack, 2 of them critically.

Following the incident, health and security teams were dispatched to the area.

According to reports by Gamze Elçi from Sözcü TV, it was learned that a student raided the school with a pump-action shotgun.

An operation has been launched to capture the attacker, who fled on foot.

PARENTS FLOCKED TO THE SCHOOL

After hearing the news of the attack, parents who arrived at the school tried to enter the school building to learn about the condition of their children. Following this, a scuffle broke out between some parents and law enforcement officers who had taken security measures around the school.

Security forces tried to calm the worried parents while security measures around the school were increased.

ALL THE INJURED ARE STUDENTS

It was stated that all those injured in the attack were students. It was reported that two of the injured students are in life-threatening condition.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM THE MANISA GOVERNOR'S OFFICE

In a written statement made by the Manisa Governor's Office following the attack, the following expressions were included:

"A report was received that shots were fired in an area near the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in our Turgutlu district.

Upon the report, police and health teams were dispatched to the scene, and our teams' work regarding the incident is ongoing.

The public will be further informed about developments."

NEW STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE: ATTACKER CAPTURED

In its latest statement, the Manisa Governor's Office reported that 8 people were taken to the hospital and the attacker was captured.

The statement is as follows:

"On September 22, 2026, at approximately 07:59, a report was received that shots were fired in an area near the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in our Turgutlu district.

Upon the report, numerous police and health teams were dispatched to the region.

According to initial findings regarding the incident, it was learned that 8 people were affected. The injured were transferred to the nearest health facility.

Following the incident, the suspect, who is considered to have fired the shots, was captured and taken into custody by our security forces.

A judicial and administrative investigation has been launched into the incident, and developments will be shared with the public separately."

ATTACKER TURNS OUT TO BE A STUDENT OF THE SCHOOL

It was determined that the suspect taken into custody by security forces is H.O., a 9-C class student born in 2011.

MEB: THREE MINISTRY INSPECTORS ASSIGNED

The Ministry of National Education (MEB) made a statement regarding the armed attack that occurred near the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district of Manisa.

The Ministry stated that the process has been closely followed since the first moments of the incident, which took place outside the school. It was stated that in addition to the investigation conducted by Manisa provincial inspectors, three Ministry inspectors were assigned to examine the incident in all its aspects and were sent to Manisa.

In the statement, it was noted that psychosocial support teams have started working in the field for the students, teachers, and parents affected by the incident, and that educational activities at the school were suspended on September 22.

The MEB's statement is as follows:

"The tragic incident that occurred on the morning of Tuesday, September 22, 2026, near the İnci Üzmez Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Turgutlu district of Manisa has deeply saddened our nation, especially our educational community.

From the first moments of the heinous attack, all relevant units of our state, especially security forces and health personnel, have been on alert, and a comprehensive investigation into the matter has been launched.

The process has been followed with sensitivity by our Ministry since the first moments of the incident that took place outside the school, and all necessary work is being carried out in coordination by our relevant units. In addition to the investigation processes of our Manisa provincial inspectors regarding the incident in question, three Ministry inspectors have also been assigned to examine the incident in all its aspects and have been immediately directed to the province of Manisa.

Our psychosocial support teams have also started rehabilitation activities in the field for our students, teachers, and parents affected by the tragic incident.

Educational activities at our aforementioned educational institution have been suspended today (September 22, 2026).

Our relevant units are acting in coordination and with determination to ensure that the investigation into the incident is carried out meticulously.

We wish a speedy recovery to our injured who have been transferred to hospitals and are undergoing treatment, and we convey our get-well wishes to their relatives and our educational family.

ATTACKER'S MOTHER, FATHER, AND GRANDFATHER ALSO IN CUSTODY

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek announced that 11 students, 2 of whom are in critical condition, were injured, and reported that the attacker's mother and father, as well as his grandfather, who was determined to have been involved in the use of the weapon, have also been taken into custody.
