2nd wave in citizenship investigation: Partners of famous Istanbul shopping mall detained

A second wave of operations has been carried out as part of an investigation into allegations of obtaining Turkish citizenship irregularly through collusive real estate sales. While judicial proceedings were initiated against 88 suspects within the scope of the investigation, 72 suspects were detained.

According to the statement made by Akın Gürlek on his social media account, the operation was carried out by teams from the Istanbul Provincial Police Department under the coordination of the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. It was reported that trustees were appointed to 30 companies in the case file.

Recalling that transactions linked to Babacan İnşaat were examined in the first wave, Gürlek stated that it was determined that low-value real estate was sold with false, high-value appraisal reports and that 687 people had obtained Turkish citizenship irregularly. It was noted that a process has been initiated for the cancellation of these individuals' citizenship.

734 SALES EXAMINED IN THE SECOND WAVE

In the second wave of the investigation, real estate sales made through Gül İnşaat AŞ, Beyaz İnşaat, and LİV İnşaat were placed under scrutiny. According to the statement, sales made to 734 foreign nationals were evaluated within this scope.

It was announced that Gül İnşaat AŞ, Beyaz İnşaat, and LİV İnşaat were among the companies to which trustees were appointed. It was stated that the owners of Gül İnşaat, Ali Gül, Metin Gül, and Çetin Gül, were also detained.

Gül İnşaat is known to be among the partners of Metroport AVM, which is located in front of the metrobus station in Istanbul's Bahçelievler district. It was stated that with the trusteeship decision, the company's shares in the shopping mall were also transferred to the appointed trustee.
