CHP files criminal complaint against Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin: Remarks on secularism drew backlash
CHP Deputy Chair Gül Çiftci announced that they will file a criminal complaint against Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin due to his 'anti-republic and anti-secular' remarks.
Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin targeted secularism and the republic in a program he attended, stating, "You are imposing on me a secularism you invented yourself. What you understand by secularism is this: locking the doors of mosques, turning mosques into stables, and banning citizens from learning the Quran."
Tekin faced backlash from political figures and numerous citizens. The CHP announced that they would file a criminal complaint against Tekin.
"HE MUST BE REMOVED FROM OFFICE IMMEDIATELY"
CHP Deputy Chair responsible for Election and Party Legal Affairs, Gül Çiftçi, announced on her social media account that they would file a criminal complaint against Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin with the following statements:
"No one can target the republic with lies and distorted expressions.
We will file a criminal complaint against Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin due to the anti-republic and anti-secular expressions he used.
Tekin must be removed from office immediately. A person with this mentality has no contribution to offer our children."
