Claim that the move Şimşek was waiting for came at midnight: New restructuring in economic management

With the signature of President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, high-level personnel changes were carried out in many critical institutions, primarily in economic management, in the duplicate issue of the Official Gazette.

Within the scope of the decisions, new appointments were made in the bureaucracy of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the Capital Markets Board (SPK), the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB), the Public Oversight Authority (KGK), the Council of Forensic Medicine, and the Ministry of National Defense.

TÜİK PRESIDENT DISMISSED

One of the most notable headlines of the changes in economic management was TÜİK.

For some time, claims had been on the agenda in Ankara's political circles that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek wanted a change in the management of TÜİK. With the decision published in the Official Gazette, TÜİK President Erhan Çetinkaya was dismissed.

Mehmet Arabacı, who previously served as the Deputy Head of the Revenue Administration, was appointed in place of Çetinkaya.

NEW ERA AT THE SPK

A management change was also made at the Capital Markets Board.

Mahmut Sütcü, the current Second Chairman of the board, was brought to the position of SPK Chairman. While Ahmet Aksu was appointed as the Second Chairman of the board, Yusuf Sünbül was appointed as a Board Member.

According to the report by Paramedya, there had been intense lobbying in Ankara for the SPK Chairmanship for a long time. While it was being debated whether the current Chairman Ömer Gönül would continue his duty, it was alleged that the MHP wing was supporting a department head from within the institution.

In the report, it was stated that Mahmut Sütcü, the name supported by Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, came to the fore during this process. Following the appointment of Sütcü, a former account expert, to the SPK Chairmanship, assessments were made that decision-making processes in economic management would be carried out with names close to Şimşek.

Yusuf Emre Akgündüz was appointed as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey.

Following the changes in the economic bureaucracy, eyes turned to the steps that the new management staff will take.

“FUND DRAFT” CLAIM CAME TO THE AGENDA

Following the change of duty at the SPK, the “Fund Draft,” which has been talked about in the markets for a long time, came to the agenda again.

According to the information provided by Paramedya, the draft text, which was prepared about three months ago and submitted to the evaluation of sector representatives, contains critical regulations regarding capital markets.

In the report, it was stated that Mehmet Şimşek made intense efforts to implement the regulation in question, and it was expressed that with Mahmut Sütcü starting his duty, it is expected that the bottleneck, which is claimed to have been experienced in the bureaucracy, will be overcome.

The decisions published in the Official Gazette were not limited to economic institutions only.

İbrahim Ömer Gönül was appointed as the President of the Public Oversight, Accounting and Auditing Standards Authority. Abdi Serdar Üstünsalih was brought to the position of Board Member.

While Hızır Aslıyürek was appointed as the President of the Council of Forensic Medicine, Mehmet Avcı, the General Manager of Supply Services of the Ministry of National Defense, was dismissed.

Zikrullah Doğan, the District Governor of the Çınar district of Diyarbakır, was brought to the position vacated by Avcı.
