Critical call from MHP's Feti Yıldız for the new legislative term

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız made evaluations regarding justice, the right to remain silent, and potential legal regulations for the new legislative term in a statement made for the start of the 2026-2027 judicial year.

Yıldız stated that the agenda of the new judicial year will include corruption cases involving numerous defendants, as well as bribery and money laundering investigations for which indictments have been prepared. Yıldız pointed out that the rights of the defendants to defense and to remain silent must be observed during these processes.

Stating that the right to remain silent is one of the elements that complements the presumption of innocence, Yıldız said, "The suspect or defendant is obliged to answer questions regarding their identity correctly. Within the scope of the general right to defense, the right to remain silent regarding the alleged act is regulated in the 5th paragraph of Article 38 of the Constitution and Article 147 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK)."

Sharing his views on the concept of justice, Yıldız stated that the subject of justice has been addressed by different thinkers and jurists throughout history.

Touching upon the work that could be done in the new legislative term, Yıldız used the following expressions:

"In the upcoming legislative year, without forgetting that supremacy lies only in the Constitution and the laws, and by remaining committed to our political affiliations and the principles of equality, fairness, impartiality, and the rule of law, and by maintaining the balance between justice and public conscience, we can renew the Law on Political Parties and the Election Law together, including reforming the execution system, just as we did with the 'Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration'."
