DEM Party responds to Bahçeli's call: Is Öcalan ready, is the state ready?

DEM Party responds to Bahçeli's call: Is Öcalan ready, is the state ready?

DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan made statements at her party's headquarters.

The repercussions of the statements made by MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli at his party's group meeting in recent days continue. Following the call for PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan to 'come and speak in Parliament and dissolve the organization,' DEM Party spokesperson Doğan stated, "Let us open this new path together. The Kurdish issue, which has been ignored, denied, overlooked, treated as a security problem for years, and thought to be solvable with tactics and collapse plans—it is almost named as such, but it stands before us as a human issue. It has been seen once again that it cannot be solved by ignoring, denying, or through security-oriented policies."

UNDER HEAVY ISOLATION FOR 45 MONTHS

Speaking about PKK leader Öcalan, Doğan said:

"Why Mr. Öcalan? Because we are talking about someone who has dedicated his life to the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue. He has been held in an island prison for 25 years and has been under heavy isolation conditions for 45 months. He is being held in absolute incommunicado. Millions say he is 'my will.' This support is not limited to Turks and Kurds. We are talking about support that transcends geographies and borders."

"We are talking about an actor who, as the primary interlocutor for the resolution of the Kurdish issue, will also make significant contributions to the resolution of the country's grave problems and to peace in the Middle East, which has been turned into a ring of fire."

THE ROLE HE WILL PLAY IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE

"Because isolation is being applied and meetings are not taking place, grave problems are becoming increasingly severe. We are talking about someone who has pioneering ideas and projects for all these problems. Turkey saw this when it wanted to evaluate it. We experienced it all together. We experienced together what non-conflict means, what it gains, what the possibility of gaining is, and what kind of future the growth of a peace possibility could bring us all. The role Mr. Öcalan will play, the initiative he will take, and the responsibility he will assume in the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue are of vital importance."

THE TRUE ADDRESSEE OF THE CALL IS IN ISOLATION

“Calls have been made to him for days. The direct addressee of these calls is Mr. Öcalan. Is he watching these calls, can he follow them, what does he think about these calls, how would he like to respond to these calls, under what conditions would he like to respond? Just as you do not know the answers to these questions, we as the DEM Party do not know either. Because why? The person who is the true addressee of the call and the calls is in isolation. This must now be eliminated. The conditions to participate in these discussions must be provided."

IMRALI AND ÖCALAN ARE READY

Referring to DEM Party MP Ömer Öcalan's meeting with Abdullah Öcalan, Doğan recalled Abdullah Öcalan's message: "The isolation continues. If the conditions are met, I have the theoretical and practical power to move this process from the ground of conflict and violence to a legal and political ground."

Regarding Öcalan's message, Doğan said, "This message, which seems like three lines, three sentences, contains many messages within itself. First, he declares that the isolation continues. Second, he says that if the conditions are met, he has the theoretical and practical power to move this process from the ground of conflict and violence to a legal and political ground."

Ayşegül Doğan said, "In other words, Imralı is ready, Mr. Öcalan is ready. But is the state ready? Democratic politics is ready, Mr. Öcalan is also ready? Now it is the turn of those who made this call and those who support it. The word has been spoken once; now it is time to put this word into action," she said.

HEALTH STATUS

Responding to rumors about Abdullah Öcalan's health, Doğan said, "Mr. Öcalan's health is good. The speculations made on this subject are completely intentional speculations."

THERE IS NO ACTOR TO CONFRONT IN KURDISH POLITICS

"In the democratic resolution of the Kurdish issue, for the democratization of Turkey, for a lasting peace to emerge, and for Turkey not to live in this state, there is no actor in Kurdish politics, under the roof of the DEM Party or outside it, that could confront each other. Let no one hope for this in vain. All actors in Kurdish politics are ready to approach a democratic resolution process that can be developed, which can be created under Mr. Öcalan's interlocutorship, on a legal and political ground as he expressed, with the same responsibility and are ready to show this responsibility."
