Dues crisis in residential complexes and apartment buildings! Increases reach 200 percent, citizens are outraged
While the housing crisis continues to show its effects with full intensity, the dues hikes in the January-February period have also burdened citizens. Suat Sandalcı, President of the Turkey Urban Facility Management Association, stated that citizens should participate in meetings at their residential complexes.
High inflation and the cost of living have caused dues to rise across all of Turkey.
Speaking to Hürriyet, Suat Sandalcı, President of the Turkey Urban Facility Management Association, made evaluations regarding the dues crisis.
"CITIZENS SAY THEY ARE FED UP"
Sandalcı stated the following:
“We have received hundreds of complaint emails in the last few months. Istanbul is the focus, but we also have people reaching out to us from Samsun. Citizens are saying they are fed up. The field investigations we conducted following the complaints received show that they are right.”
"PARTICIPATION IN MEETINGS IS VERY LOW"
Stating that a hike in dues was inevitable due to the minimum wage increase, but that the increases, which should have been in the 40-50 percent band, have gone up to 150-200 percent, Sandalcı said, “Furthermore, we know that irregular invoices are being issued for services such as security and cleaning. In many residential complexes, illegal groups have set their sights on management budgets. The most important duty falling to residents is to attend general assemblies. Unfortunately, participation in meetings where hikes and budgets are determined is very low,” he said.
"THE FIRST STEP IS MANAGEMENT COMPANIES"
Stating that there is a majority of inadequate and malicious residential management companies, Sandalcı said, “We believe that the regulation that will bring a licensing requirement for residential management companies will come to the agenda with the opening of Parliament. The Ministry and the newly established ‘Facility Managers Union’ will work to determine the procedures and principles. From now on, just anyone who sets their sights on the budget will not be able to establish a management company. The first step is management companies, and then conditions will also be determined for apartment managers,” he said.
