Ekrem İmamoğlu's lawyer Pehlivan's defense in court: 'Irrational and illogical'

Mehmet Pehlivan, the lawyer for İBB Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of a 'corruption' investigation, was summoned to testify at the prosecutor's office regarding allegations made in the statements of certain suspects who benefited from effective remorse provisions. 

Pehlivan did not provide a statement at the prosecutor's office, arguing that, in accordance with the Attorneys' Law, permission for the investigation should have been obtained from the Ministry of Justice. 

Pehlivan was referred to the Duty Criminal Court of Peace with a request for 'arrest' on charges of 'being a member of an organization established to commit crimes,' and after the procedures were completed, he was arrested and sent to prison on the charge of 'being a member of an organization established to commit crimes.'

DEFENSE STATEMENT EMERGES

Meanwhile, Pehlivan's defense statement made before the Duty Criminal Court of Peace has been obtained. 

In his defense, Pehlivan stated, "I am facing a slander that I spoke in a 'threatening' manner over a phone call I never made," adding, "Adem Soytekin's allegations against me are entirely untrue. 

He claimed that I held two separate alleged meetings, one at a law office and the other at İmamoğlu's home. 

He further alleged that the purpose of one of these meetings was for me to arrange the law firm that would represent him as counsel within the scope of the investigation in question. 

This claim is irrational and illogical. As far as I know, the law firm has already been representing Adem Soytekin for over 10 years. It is physically and logically impossible for me to have established an existing legal relationship.

Soytekin claimed that in a fictional meeting he alleged took place before March 19, I told him that a precautionary measure had been issued against Ali Nuhoğlu after I spoke with him.

However, it has been reported in the press that the precautionary measure against Nuhoğlu was issued after March 19," he said.
