Erhan Afyoncu: There are efforts underway to reopen military hospitals

Developments regarding the highly debated issue of the closure of military hospitals are being followed with interest by all Turkish Armed Forces personnel.

National Defense University Rector Prof. Dr. Erhan Afyoncu made important statements during a live broadcast on CNN Türk. Afyoncu announced that work is continuing on the reopening of military hospitals.

Erhan Afyoncu did not provide a specific date for when the military hospitals would be reopened.

'FETÖ IS STILL TRYING TO INFILTRATE MILITARY SCHOOLS'

Afyoncu stated that crypto-FETÖ members are still attempting to enter military schools.

"On July 15, all military educational institutions had collapsed; you are transferring 16 thousand military students to other schools, you are dismissing more than 23 thousand people... I will say this clearly: there are still crypto-FETÖ members in many state institutions today, primarily in civilian universities. I don't know the number, but they exist.

In the state's intelligence reports, we see that they are still trying to infiltrate military schools. If you detect them, you don't admit them. Because they do not give up. It is not possible to detect all of them. After the February 12, 2012, MIT crisis, some FETÖ members joined different groups. This includes leftist organizations as well."

'ANYONE WITHOUT RESPECT FOR ATATÜRK CANNOT BE IN THE MILITARY ACADEMY'

Afyoncu also spoke about the debates surrounding Atatürk. Stating that "anyone who does not have respect for Atatürk has no place in the Military Academy," Afyoncu also touched upon the army-politics debates.

"Politics cannot enter the army. I will not allow this. I am a man who knows the Balkan Wars. The entry of politics into the army caused us to lose the entire Balkans. No one with a historical consciousness would allow this."
