First hearing of the Akın Gürlek case against İmamoğlu moved to Silivri
The Akın Gürlek case filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, scheduled for April 11, has been moved from Çağlayan to Silivri.
The Akın Gürlek case filed against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor and CHP Presidential Candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, which was set to be heard on April 11, has been moved from Çağlayan to the Silivri Closed Penal Execution Institution.
Announcing that the courtroom had been changed, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın stated the following:
"The hearing scheduled for April 11, 2025, at the Çağlayan Courthouse, based on Mayor Ekrem's remarks regarding Akın Gürlek, has been moved to Courtroom No. 2 at the Silivri Open Prison Complex. I remember this courtroom from the Ergenekon trials. The beginning of the film is the same, and the end will be the same!"
The minutes shared by Günaydın include the following statements:
"Regarding the case file numbered 2025/52 at our Court, in which the defendant Ekrem İmamoğlu is being tried for the crimes of 'Targeting Individuals Involved in Counter-Terrorism,' 'Threats,' and 'Insult,' the defendant was duly summoned by our Court on February 18, 2025, to appear at the hearing to be held on April 11, 2025, at 10:00 AM, but was subsequently arrested for another offense and taken to the Silivri Closed Penal Execution Institution.
Although our Court requested in a memorandum written to the Silivri Closed Penal Execution Institution on April 8, 2025, that the defendant be brought to our Court's courtroom on the day of the hearing, it has been evaluated that, considering the potential for high attendance, the physical limitations of our Court's courtroom which could lead to grievances for the parties, the need to maintain order within and around the Istanbul Courthouse, and security concerns, it would be appropriate to hold the hearing in Courtroom No. 2 located in the Silivri Open Prison Complex Courtroom building, in accordance with Article 21 of Law No. 6763 and the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK) No. 5271.
In this regard, it has been decided to issue a memorandum to the Silivri Closed Penal Execution Institution to serve these minutes to the defendant without delay and to send the service document to our Court, to revoke the process of bringing the defendant to our Court's courtroom, and to request that the defendant be present at the specified courtroom on the determined date and time.
It has been requested that this minutes be served to the defense counsel of the defendant and that they be present in the specified courtroom on the date and time of the hearing,
That other procedural actions be carried out by the Court clerk's office,
Decided unanimously."
