Former MHP MP Yahnici: The real insults to Bahçeli came from Erdoğan and Soylu
Şevket Bülend Yahnici, a prominent figure in the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) and a former Ankara MP, made statements in support of retired Colonel Orkun Özeller.
Describing Özeller as a “patriotic Turkish officer,” Yahnici argued that the criticisms directed at Bahçeli were exaggerated. He stated, “He insulted Devlet Bey, is that so? He hasn't insulted him as much as Tayyip Bey has, or as much as Süleyman Soylu has.”
Yahnici’s remarks have brought the harsh statements made in the past by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and former Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu toward MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli back to the agenda.
The use of harsh language by Erdoğan and Soylu regarding Bahçeli in statements made years ago had caused a wide stir in public opinion, but both figures later formed a political alliance with the MHP leader.
Yahnici’s move has reignited debates within the MHP.
