WHAT IS HAPPENING IN SINDIRGI?
Following the Sındırgı earthquake, which had a destructive power of magnitude M6.1, aftershocks have continued incessantly, reaching magnitudes of M4.5-5.
7 / 10
The aftershocks are concentrated within an area surrounded by Demirci, Gölmarmara, Akhisar, Kırkağaç, Gelenbe, Balıkesir, and Dursunbey, with a northwest length of 35 km and a northeast width of 25 km, centered on Sındırgı, generally trending east-west and northwest-southeast.
8 / 10
The focal depth of the earthquakes is concentrated between 12 and 15 km, as if a swarm of tremors is continuing. This situation indicates that the tension in this region was not released by the main M6.1 earthquake and that secondary aftershocks will continue for a long time. However, the public is very uneasy and rushes into the streets at the slightest tremor.

Nevertheless, I do not expect a destructive earthquake in this region. The aftershocks appear to continue for another 1-2 months before they begin to subside. I will explain my detailed views on the Sındırgı earthquakes in a presentation I will give in Gömeç, Balıkesir, on September 1, 2025, at 20:30.
