He had undergone brain surgery: Statement from his doctor regarding Fatih Altaylı's health status

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who attended the funeral of historian İlber Ortaylı yesterday, was taken into surgery this morning.

It was stated that Altaylı underwent a planned operation and the procedure lasted 2.5 hours.

The following statement was made by Brain and Pituitary Surgeon Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç regarding Fatih Altaylı's treatment process:

"It was known that our patient Fatih Altaylı had a benign tumor called a meningioma, approximately 25 mm in size. Due to some growth of the tumor in recent years, a treatment plan had been scheduled for him for today.

This morning, during the detailed MRIs taken for the Gamma Knife Radiosurgery treatment, it was determined that in addition to the 25 mm meningioma we knew existed, a new meningioma of approximately 15 mm had formed.

And treatment for both tumors was performed this morning in the same session. The treatment was completed without any issues. No problems were encountered. He was discharged following the treatment. Both treated benign tumors will shrink and become inactive within the next year."
