SHE SENT A MESSAGE SAYING "MY HUSBAND IS HOLDING ME HOSTAGE"

A woman named Emine Ülkü Araz sent a message to the police emergency line stating, "My husband is holding me hostage with a gun." Upon the report, numerous teams were dispatched to the address in a short time. During the investigation by the teams, it was understood that the address of the person who made the report was the same residence where the couple lived, and where the Çekmeköy Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women Bureau had previously processed 3 files regarding the couple.

GUNSHOTS WERE HEARD

The teams took extensive security measures in front of the apartment door and in the surrounding area. Medical teams were dispatched as a precaution. Negotiator teams tried to persuade the armed husband for a long time to open the door and release his wife. Despite all the police's persuasion efforts, Araz did not open the door. Upon this, Special Operations police were called to the scene. Meanwhile, gunshots were heard from inside. Following this, police teams took action.

HE KILLED HIS WIFE

Special Operations police broke down the door of the house with a battering ram and entered. The police caught the suspect, Hakan Araz, on the balcony of the apartment and neutralized him. The detained suspect was taken to the Çekmeköy Public Security Bureau. Emine Ülkü Araz, who was seriously injured by bullets to various parts of her body, was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Despite all interventions at the hospital, she could not be saved and lost her life.

TRANSFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE

The murder suspect was taken to the Public Security Branch Murder Bureau for questioning. In his statement at the police station, the suspect said that he took her hostage and fired after an argument with his wife.
