How voters view mayors switching to the AKP: Research results announced

Meeting with book lovers in Balıkesir at the talk titled "The pulse of society, the mirror of politics" held at the 1st Balıkesir Book Fair, Gündemar Research founder Prof. Dr. Tamer Bolat shared the results of their research on recent developments on the agenda and presented striking data regarding the decision of some CHP mayors to join the AKP.

Speaking at the book fair jointly organized by the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality and the Balıkesir City Council, Prof. Dr. Tamer Bolat stated that they conduct research frequently and that the agenda changes regularly, sharing the public's approach to these agendas with the book lovers in Balıkesir. Stating that one of the topics discussed in their research is corruption allegations and lawsuits, Tamer Bolat said, "We are conducting research on the processes regarding Ekrem İmamoğlu and other mayors. We have been following the process since June. A large part of society, 60 percent, thinks that the ongoing process is a political process. Our measurements are not singular. There is a segment in society that currently votes 40 percent for the government and 60 percent for the opposition. 60 percent of society says this process is a political process. Within the 40 percent, there is also a group that thinks it is a political process."

"ISRAEL SYMPATHY IS AT 6 PERCENT"

Emphasizing that society is divided into two on every issue, Tamer Bolat said, "We see this very clearly. On issues above politics, society suddenly unites. When we asked citizens about the Gaza issue, 'Do you sympathize with Israel?', the positive response given was only 6 percent. The public unites on issues above politics, but there is polarization on other issues."

HOW MAYORAL TRANSFERS REFLECT ON VOTERS

Stating that they have conducted research on the recent departure of some mayors from their parties to join the AKP, Gündemar founder Bolat assessed, "When we asked about the mayors' transition to the AK Party, 65 percent of the public stated that they do not find these transitions appropriate. When we asked how these transitions made them feel, 70 percent of society is unhappy about this. The happiest group is the AK Party voters." Stating that "When we asked the general public how these transitions made them feel, 85 percent have negative feelings," Tamer Bolat concluded, "They are unhappy and have high levels of anxiety. It is not just the opposition or government voters. The general public is unhappy. We are in a seriously dire situation from a psychological perspective."

DISCOMFORT IN SOCIETY REGARDING ÖCALAN

Stating that there are serious results in other prominent agenda topics as well, Prof. Dr. Tamer Bolat said, "For example, there is discomfort in society regarding Abdullah Öcalan. Society finds the government unsuccessful in foreign policy. The same society gives great support to Palestine. 75 percent of society finds the country's direction bad. The rates that emerged in the topics I listed are very high."
