Individual who shared AI-generated images of Erdoğan and Akın Gürlek detained
Mehmet Ç. was detained in Ankara on allegations of sharing AI-generated images showing him alongside Erdoğan and Akın Gürlek.
As part of an investigation conducted by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Mehmet Ç. was detained for allegedly sharing images on social media and WhatsApp status updates that were assessed to have been created using artificial intelligence.
The investigation determined that Mehmet Ç. shared AI-generated content featuring his own image alongside photographs of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Akın Gürlek.
It was assessed that through these posts, the suspect created the impression that he had connections with public officials and held influence over them.
Mehmet Çakmak was detained on September 23, 2026, at his address in the Keçiören district of Ankara on charges of "influence peddling" and "publicly disseminating false information with the intent to create anxiety, fear, or panic among the public."
