Iraqi Government Spokesperson explains what will happen at the 'historic' meeting with Erdoğan: 25 memoranda of understanding will be signed

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is set to pay an official visit to Iraq tomorrow, and Iraqi Government Spokesperson Basim al-Awadi has made statements ahead of the visit. 

Describing Erdoğan's visit to the capital Baghdad as "historic," al-Awadi stated that approximately 25 memoranda of understanding and 2 agreements that will chart an important course for Iraq-Turkey relations will be signed during the visit.

UNPRECEDENTED

Claiming that the visit is unprecedented, al-Awadi said, "The visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to Baghdad will significantly advance Iraq-Turkey relations. We are not saying this to exaggerate the visit; this is a fact, and everyone will see it tomorrow. These agreements and memoranda of understanding will make a significant contribution to the development of relations between the two countries. There will be major surprises during the visit, especially regarding water, security, the economy, and the Development Road Project."

FIRST VISIT IN 13 YEARS

Underlining that Erdoğan's visit to Baghdad after a 13-year hiatus carries great importance, al-Awadi said, "For this visit, joint commissions between the two countries have been carrying out work on economic, security, and Development Road Project issues in recent years."

President Erdoğan last visited Iraq in 2011.
