Journalist detained for reporting on AKP deputy's remarks about Öcalan

Journalist Muhsin Aksoy and his wife Hatice Aksoy were detained late at night for reporting on remarks by AKP Diyarbakır Deputy Suna Kepoğlu Ataman, in which she thanked the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, and the Imralı delegation.

Following the publication of the report containing Ataman's words, "May God be pleased with them for letting us experience today," proceedings were initiated against the Aksoy couple on charges of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility." The couple was released after giving their statements at the police station.

According to Muhsin Aksoy, they were called by Ataman's husband, Atilla Ataman, approximately four hours after the report was published. Aksoy stated that they were threatened during the call and that plainclothes police officers arrived in front of their residence about three hours later.

The Aksoy couple stated that they were taken to the police station with their child because there was no one to leave their 1.5-year-old child with.
