Former Minister of Labor and Social Security Nihat Matkap has announced his resignation from CHP membership. Matkap informed the public of his decision through a statement on his social media account.
Matkap, who previously served as group deputy chairman and general treasurer within the CHP, stated that his resignation did not stem from personal resentment. He cited the failure to meet the call for an extraordinary convention and the ongoing judicial process regarding this matter as the reasons for his decision.
Matkap stated that the delegates of the 38th Convention had requested an extraordinary convention with notarized signatures, but that the party administration appointed by the court did not fulfill this call. Noting that a lawsuit was filed at the Ankara 28th Civil Court of Peace for this reason, Matkap argued that the process was not resolved at the first hearing.
Claiming that the current administration's stance is incompatible with the democratic values of the CHP, Matkap expressed that the party has moved away from its founding principles. Matkap further argued that the administration's political line serves to extend the political life of the AK Party government rather than shorten it.
It is not possible for me to continue my political journey with a CHP that has moved away from its founding philosophy, its democratic values, and the spirit of its own bylaws. For this reason, I have resigned from CHP membership today.
Matkap also noted that his departure from CHP membership does not mean he is ending his political struggle.
