Kılıçdaroğlu reacts sharply to events in Van: 'You are playing with fire'

After the "revocation of prohibited rights" of Abdullah Zeydan, who was the candidate for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) for the Van Metropolitan Municipality and was elected with 55 percent of the vote, the certificate of election was given to Justice and Development Party (AKP) candidate Abdulahat Arvas, who received 27 percent of the vote.

Following this development, many political figures expressed their reactions.

While those who described the process as unlawful stated that the mistake must be corrected, former CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu reacted to what happened in Van with the following words:

"BOP CO-CHAIR, YOU ARE PLAYING WITH FIRE!

The foundations of this country were built on democracy. Not you, but even if your masters came, they would not change this. The people of Van have made their decision, and it is up to you to accept it. Do what democracy and justice require and give the certificate of election to the winner!

I am addressing you and the dark forces behind you: The Republic of Turkey is a secular, democratic state of law; you will never be able to change this!

Abdulahat Arvas, I have a few words for you as well. Be honorable and tear up that piece of paper they shoved into your hand immediately! Do it so that you can walk in Van with your head held high. Do not miss the opportunity to be able to look your children and the people of Van in the face!
