Kılıçdaroğlu reacts to Vahap Seçer's detention! 'This issue is no longer just a CHP issue'
Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has issued a statement following the detention of 59 people, including Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer. Criticizing the manner in which the detention was carried out, Kılıçdaroğlu also brought up the fund investigation and asked, "What are these dawn raids?"
Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer was among 59 people detained in an operation, prompting a statement from Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was brought to the CHP Chairmanship by a decision of absolute nullity. Kılıçdaroğlu reacted to the fact that Seçer was detained in an operation conducted at his home in the early hours of the morning.
Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, in addition to Seçer, Yenişehir Mayor Abdullah Özyiğit and Mezitli Mayor Ahmet Serkan Tuncer were also detained. It was reported that the investigation concerns tender and direct procurement procedures in the municipalities, and that a public loss of 330 million 945 thousand liras was identified during the examinations.
"WAS VAHAP SEÇER GOING TO FLEE?"
Stating that Seçer was elected with the votes of 60 percent of Mersin residents, Kılıçdaroğlu criticized the manner in which the detention was carried out.
In his statement, Kılıçdaroğlu used the expressions, "What did they do this morning? They conducted a dawn operation on his home and detained him."
Arguing that Seçer would have come if he had been summoned to give a statement, Kılıçdaroğlu asked, "Was Vahap Seçer going to flee? Wouldn't he have come to give a statement if you had summoned him? What are these dawn raids?"
BROUGHT UP THE FUND INVESTIGATION
In the continuation of his statement, Kılıçdaroğlu also touched upon the fund investigation currently on the agenda in Turkey.
Stating that the money of hundreds of thousands of citizens is locked in the funds and that transactions worth billions of liras have emerged, Kılıçdaroğlu alleged that the families of some figures close to the AK Party are also involved in the files.
Arguing that sufficient investigation has not been carried out regarding these individuals in this context, Kılıçdaroğlu said, "Is there anyone asking two questions? No. Is the prosecutor summoning them? No."
"CHANGE THE AGENDA"
Emphasizing that news regarding the fund investigation has faced access blocks, Kılıçdaroğlu stated that journalists' accounts have been closed and that the investigation has been prevented from being sufficiently discussed in the public eye.
Linking Seçer's detention to these developments, Kılıçdaroğlu said, "Wasn't it enough? Change the agenda. Every morning, send the police to the door of another CHP mayor who has received the support of millions of citizens."
Kılıçdaroğlu's statement is as follows:
Vahap Seçer…
A Metropolitan Mayor elected with the votes of 60 percent of Mersin residents.
A name elected by the will of millions of citizens, who has received the votes of people from different political views in Mersin.
What did they do this morning?
They conducted a dawn operation on his home and detained him.
I ask:
Was Vahap Seçer going to flee?
Wouldn't he have come to give a statement if you had summoned him?
What are these dawn raids?
If you are from the CHP, there is no being summoned to give a statement. The police will show up at your door in the darkness of the morning, and you will be detained.
But if you are in the circle of the ruling power, there is a different law.
For weeks, we have been talking about one of the biggest fund scandals in Turkish history.
The money of hundreds of thousands of citizens is locked in funds. Transactions worth billions of liras have emerged.
The names of AK Party deputy chairmen, former ministers, and families of figures close to the government are mentioned in these files.
It is emerging whose sons and whose sons-in-law are sitting in the most critical seats of the fund scandal.
Is there anyone asking two questions?
No.
Is the prosecutor summoning them?
No.
With midnight prosecutor's decisions, the seizure on the assets of an AK Party deputy chairman's son is lifted.
What is done to the journalists who report these?
Access block.
Ban the news, close the journalists' accounts, cover up the fund scandal.
Wasn't it enough?
Change the agenda.
Every morning, send the police to the door of another CHP mayor who has received the support of millions of citizens.
Conduct a dawn raid.
Detain them.
Let Turkey not talk about the fund scandal. Let it not talk about how the money of hundreds of thousands of people is locked up. Let it not ask where the families close to the government are in these affairs.
But conduct a dawn operation on Vahap Seçer!
For God's sake, what is this?
Where is justice in this?
Where is the law in this?
On one side, immunity if you are close to the government; on the other side, detention in the darkness of the morning if you are an opponent.
This is not called a state of law.
This is not called justice.
This issue is no longer just a CHP issue.
This issue is not just Vahap Seçer's issue.
This is now a survival issue for Turkey.
Because a state cannot survive where there is no justice. No one can feel safe in a country where the law is applied according to the person, the party, or the surname.
A country cannot be governed like this.
Turkey cannot be governed like this."
