Man shoots neighborhood headman in the leg after request to play Ramadan drum is rejected

The incident occurred on the ground floor of a 3-story building on Şehit Mehmet Street in the Yeniyalı neighborhood.

According to the information obtained, Samet Ş. told Yeniyalı Neighborhood Headman Metin Kaplan (40) that he wanted to play the drum during the month of Ramadan.

Metin Kaplan rejected the request, stating that Samet Ş. resided in a different neighborhood. A dispute then broke out between the two. As the argument escalated, Samet Ş. pulled out a handgun he had brought with him and fired a single shot at Metin Kaplan.

Metin Kaplan, who was struck in the right leg, collapsed to the ground in pain, while Samet Ş. fled the scene. Relatives who came downstairs upon hearing the gunshot took the wounded Metin Kaplan to a private hospital in their own vehicle.

Following a report made by hospital officials to the 112 Emergency Call Center, police teams were dispatched to the building on Şehit Mehmet Street where Metin Kaplan resides. Crime scene investigation teams conducted examinations on the street and in the building.

Metin Kaplan was discharged after receiving treatment. The police have launched an operation to apprehend the fleeing suspect, Samet Ş.
