Scandalous admission from Minister Mahinur Göktaş: 'Isn't all our information already in the hands of America?'
Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş drew attention with her response to a question regarding social media regulation, asking, "Isn't all our information already in the hands of America?"
The AKP is planning to make significant changes to social media regulations. A proposal that envisions preventing children under the age of 15 from registering for social media platforms is being prepared for submission to the Speaker of the Parliament.
Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş made a striking statement during the AKP Central Executive Board (MKYK) meeting where social media regulations were being discussed.
Göktaş sparked controversy with her response to a question regarding the use of biometric data. When an MKYK member raised concerns about the risks of sharing children's biometric data online, Göktaş replied, "Isn't all our information already in the hands of America?"
RESTRICTIONS TO BE IMPOSED ON THOSE AGED 15 AND UNDER
With the new regulation, it has been announced that children aged 15 and under will not be able to register for social media platforms. The regulation has been shaped in line with the principle of "protecting the child" in order to limit children's access to social media. In this context, it is aimed to create a model specific to Turkey by taking examples from practices in Australia, China, France, Denmark, the USA, and Belgium.
SUPPORT FOR FACIAL RECOGNITION SYSTEM
According to the details of the proposal, it has been decided that one of the methods—facial recognition for age verification during social media platform logins, algorithms that can estimate age from online behavior, or identity verification methods—will be used. Minister Göktaş stated that they are open to the idea that children's access to social media should be managed using a facial recognition system.
