New development in betting investigation: TFF announces it has requested additional information regarding 47 footballers

The TFF had previously announced to the public that 1024 footballers were identified as having placed bets within the scope of the "betting investigation." It was determined that 27 of the 1024 footballers announced play in the Süper Lig.

It was also emphasized that the disciplinary referral procedures for the 47 footballers who were seen to have only a single betting transaction would be evaluated within the framework of new evidence and information to be obtained as a result of the responses from the relevant institutions, in order to avoid irreparable damages. 

In a new statement from the TFF today, it was announced that additional information would be requested from the relevant institutions for the 47 footballers in question to ensure the process is conducted properly.

The statement made by the TFF is as follows:

"A disciplinary investigation process regarding whether individuals covered by the 'Football Disciplinary Instructions' have placed bets on football was initiated by the Turkish Football Federation on October 27, 2025, with the statement made by our President, Mr. İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu, at a press conference.

In this context, it has become necessary to make a number of statements to inform the public regarding the investigation, which began with the investigation of referees serving in football and officiating in professional leagues, and continued with professional footballers playing in professional leagues.

First and foremost, it must be stated that the data subject to the disciplinary investigation is being processed based on official records transmitted to us as a result of our application to the Spor Toto Organization Presidency.

As a result of the investigation conducted into the referees, 1 of the 152 referees referred to the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK), whose investigation is ongoing, filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, claiming that their personal data had been unlawfully obtained and that a betting account had been opened in their name to conduct transactions.

In line with the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office within the scope of the criminal complaint, the response document obtained from the betting company and submitted to the PFDK concluded that the information requested during the registration phase of the gambling platform was insufficient, and that it could be open to malicious use because a single bet could be placed using only the defined gift points without declaring a bank account after becoming a member.

Within this framework, our Federation is requesting additional information from the relevant institutions and organizations regarding the 47 footballers who were found to have a single betting transaction with gift points, which is of a similar nature, in the disciplinary investigation conducted into professional footballers, in order to ensure the investigation is conducted properly.

Among the 1024 footballers referred to the Professional Football Disciplinary Board, there are two footballers who filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office claiming to be victims, and whose administrative precautionary decisions were lifted with the documents they submitted to the PFDK.

Our Disciplinary Board continues to carry out its work within the framework of the principles of transparency, justice, and fairness."
