Parliamentary questions exceed 900: Questions Akın Gürlek failed to answer in Parliament revealed

It has been reported that Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek has failed to respond within the legal timeframe to parliamentary questions submitted to the Assembly for his response since he began his ministerial duties. According to parliamentary data, the number of questions Gürlek has left unanswered has exceeded 900.

HE HAS NOT ANSWERED MORE THAN 900 QUESTIONS

Gürlek took office after taking his oath at the session held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) on February 11. In the approximately 7 months that have passed since then, numerous parliamentary questions directed to the Ministry of Justice by opposition MPs have remained unanswered in the parliamentary records.

SECRET WITNESS ALLEGATIONS IN İBB CASES WERE ASKED

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, among the questions awaiting a response are those regarding the nature of secret witness testimonies in cases filed against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. One question asked about allegations that the secret witness statements in the files were "abstract, general, and unverified"; it was raised whether the Ministry had any information regarding what concrete evidence these statements were supported by and whether they had been tested through cross-examination.

In the same context, it was also asked whether any judicial or administrative investigations had been launched into allegations that effective remorse statements were produced in similar patterns against certain defendants and rewarded with release decisions. The questions also included whether allegations that defendants' relatives were involved in investigation processes to create pressure were being investigated.

DENIZ GÖKTAŞ'S DETENTION ALSO ON THE PARLIAMENTARY AGENDA

The questions Gürlek did not answer were not limited to the İBB cases. In a question regarding the detention of comedian Deniz Göktaş, the question was asked as to what element in his stand-up show titled "Ölü Deniz" (Dead Sea) posed a threat to national security.

ALLEGATIONS OF ALIMONY AND STRIP SEARCHES IN PRISONS

Other topics awaiting a response in the parliamentary records include alimony rights, allegations of strip searches in prisons, and the arrests and detentions carried out before the NATO summit held in Ankara.
