Reaction from Fatih Erbakan to İmamoğlu: 'An attitude that crushes both politics and justice...'

Reactions are growing like an avalanche to the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and his colleagues. One of those figures was New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan. In his statement, Erbakan said, "This attitude, which crushes both politics and justice, is a summary of the transition from a 'state of law' to a 'state of prosecutors and judges' by liquidating the former."

Sharing through his social media account, Erbakan said the following:

"It is not a right, nor is it a justifiable attitude, to inflict the same injustices you experienced in the past upon others at an even higher level. This attitude, which crushes both politics and justice, is a summary of the transition from a 'state of law' to a 'state of prosecutors and judges' by liquidating the former.

At a time when dialogue is being established with the leader of a terrorist organization, associating the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality with the same terrorist organization is also a contradictory situation. As the New Welfare Party, we take a stand in favor of law and justice today, as we always have.

We uphold the national will that manifests through democratic means. We remind everyone of the fundamental legal principle that innocence is the basis until proven otherwise.

There is no benefit to anyone in tampering with Turkey's settings, shaking justice, which is the foundation of the state, or striking a blow to the search for trust and stability that the economy needs."
