Remarkable farewell from veterans after 48-day protest

Families of fallen soldiers and veterans, who have been fighting for their rights for 48 days, have paused their protests until the end of October following a promise they received from Chief Advisor to the President Oktay Saral.

As reported by Müyesser Yıldız from 12punto, during the farewell, which saw emotional scenes, the veterans also took a souvenir photo with the police officers who had been "working shifts" alongside them for 48 days.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

Chief Advisor to the President Oktay Saral had met with Erdem Çerçioğlu, Chairman of the Association of Families of Martyrs and Veterans, as well as relatives of fallen soldiers and veterans. During the meeting, Saral stated, "It has truly saddened us, but as I said, as your brother, I will do whatever is necessary to ensure your rights are restored and granted when Parliament opens, God willing. I give you this word, I say it for the sake of the call to prayer." Following their meeting with Saral, the veterans announced that they were ending their protest in Kurtuluş Park, stating, "We are withdrawing from the field. With the support of Oktay Saral, this issue will be brought to the parliamentary agenda. It will also be discussed with the President and the Minister of National Defense."
