Response from Uçum's lawyer to AKP member Şamil Tayyar's Rezan Epözdemir claim: 'It is out of the question'

Following the detention and extension of the detention period for lawyer Rezan Epözdemir, who is accused of "bribery," "political-military espionage," and "aiding FETÖ," a series of statements have come from AKP figures regarding the investigation.

Former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar claimed that Epözdemir "insistently refused to provide his mobile phone password" and alleged that "many 'influential' names, primarily Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum, are involved."

Following these allegations, Uçum's lawyer, Zeynep Yıldırım, issued a statement. 

Yıldırım's statement is as follows:

"STATEMENT

Following news reports regarding the judicial proceedings initiated within the scope of a prosecutor's investigation launched against a lawyer on August 10, 2025, it has been determined that baseless accusations and claims have been made regarding my client, Mehmet Uçum, who has no connection to the matter. 

It is absolutely unacceptable to attack the personal rights of the client through unfair and untrue posts and news reports that have no legal or conscientious justification, made with the intent to harm the client's public office.

All posts targeting the client's personal rights, which constitute an attempt to influence a fair trial, are baseless. There is no interference by the client in any investigation process.

We respectfully inform the public that if the client's name is used unlawfully by anyone for any purpose, all kinds of legal action will be taken against all those responsible.
