Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed as the "Coordinator Reporting to the Office of the Chairman" within the CHP, answered questions from journalists at the Turkish Press Federation's "Anatolian Conversations" program.
In his assessment of the early election debates, Tekin stated that it is natural for the opposition to want an early election. Addressing the criticisms directed at Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's remarks that "We would not object if there were an early election," Tekin said, "In any country in the world, if you ask an opposition leader a question, the answer will be 'Of course I want an early election.' What could be more natural than the opposition wanting an early election? I don't know where they came up with the sentence 'You have moved closer to Erdoğan' just because you wanted this."
Responding to a question about the CHP's presidential candidate, Tekin said there is a need for a candidate who will provide hope for the economy, can read the new world order, and knows Turkey's capacity. Stating that names will be evaluated within the party, Tekin said, "The CHP has a presidential candidate. When the day comes, our chairman will share it. It will be a well-equipped, experienced candidate who can gain the nation's trust and meet its needs."
Tekin was also asked whether he would step forward if Kılıçdaroğlu did not run for the chairmanship. Opposing this possibility, Tekin argued that Kılıçdaroğlu should remain in his post.
Gürsel Tekin stated, "I am very curious why Mr. Kemal should not be a candidate. Who does not want Mr. Kemal? Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu must remain at the head of his duty until he entrusts the party to a safe harbor. We should not face new problems while the party is going through major problems. However, Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu can solve these problems with his experience, expertise, and fatherly nature."
Tekin had been appointed as the "Coordinator Reporting to the Office of the Chairman" by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu on October 15.
