Statement from Bursa Metropolitan Mayor Bozbey after being attacked: 'They can never intimidate us'

In Bursa, to listen to the demands and suggestions of citizens, to identifyproblems on-site and to produce quick solutions, the'Mayor Bozbey is Here' project's latest stop was the Yıldırımdistrict.

The MetropolitanMunicipality'sBursa Metropolitan Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, who visited the districtwith his entire management team,metwith all segments of society throughout the day.In the later hours, Bursa MetropolitanMayorBozbey and hiswhowanted to speak with him, allegedlyattempted to attack. The individual, who tried to punch the mayor, was neutralized by police and municipal police teams. The person who attempted to punch him wastaken intocustody.

"WE FACED A HEINOUS ATTACK"

Bozbey, who did not leave the neighborhood after the attack, made a statement to members of the pressmade statements. Noting that they know the individual who attempted the attack, Bozbey said, "Today, as part of the 'Mayor Bozbey is Here' project, we started the day well together at the Değirmenönü neighborhood market.We had a good start to a beautiful day.In the morning, I visited our district governor.Again, during thisvisit, wecontinued our program.We shared our work and services to be carried out in theregion with our district governor. Afterwards, I visited our Yıldırım Mayor. We shared the situation in Yıldırım and our future projects with him as well. Then we met with our neighborhood heads (muhtars) and listened to their problems, criticisms, and suggestions.

Afterwards, we came to meet with you. Here, while sharing theday with you,unfortunately, we were faced with a heinous attack. The districtmayorWhile addressing you and our fellow citizens in the very environment where we were with our mayor, and while sharing both the pastandthe future, especially while sharing the services we haveprovided in our region, we were faced with a heinous attack, a personal attack. These things can never intimidate us, and it is impossible for them todo so.It is not.

Especially I want tosay this, our headmen,our fellow citizens were very saddened, I amaware. I amtruly aware of all of them.I am also saddened. However, Our fellow citizens should know that thisregion's peopleand every single resident of Bursa arepreciousto us, they arevaluableto us. Today,no fellow citizenI would never want our city towitness such an insult or such an incident.Because every person who is human, who has humanity,and who hasathoughtprocesspeople should embrace one another. They can debate, and if there is a problem, they can express it. If they have criticism, they can voice it. They can talk. However, when it comes to physicalintervention, these peopleare acting inan inhumane manner. We never, ever condonethose who act in such an inhumane way, and we must never allow them toreach such a state again," he said.

'THEY SAY LET'S CONDUCT AN EXAMINATION'

"It is an identity we know and recognize; we also know their previous incidents. That is why we shared these with our police department. We have spoken with the relevantus"using the expressions, Bozbey said, "If you will excuse me, I have another hospital visit to make. I am fine, but they say we should have some tests done anyway. Because due to the blowon the right side, I suppose I am not aware of it, but whether it happened whileescaping or something else happened, we are not aware of it at that moment.

For this reason, I will ask for your permission. However, I want to say thislet me say this. Such incidentscannot intimidateus. It isnot possible. I have spent 20 years in this city in Nilüfer, and for nearly two yearshere, for 22 years together with you, by your side, in the market, in thebazaar, in the coffeehouse, I haveWe have been together constantly. We have shared many things together. I am someone who stands tall in the service of my fellow citizens, facing them, taking their problems to heart, and producing projects for solutions with that understandingin mind. That is whythese incidentswill never be able tointimidate us.On the contrary, they will encourage us to serve more, and to deliver our work and services to our citizens moreencourageto continue," he said.

In his pressstatement, CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Nihat Yeşiltaş, Gemlik Mayor Şükrü Deviren, Nilüfer MayorŞadi Özdemir, Osmangazi MayorMayor Erkan Aydın did not leave Bozbey alone following the attack.
