A woman identified as A.A. has been detained as part of an investigation launched after a Turkish flag hanging in front of a store in the Menteşe district of Muğla was burned during the night. The suspect, whose identity was determined as a result of examining security cameras, was referred to the courthouse after her procedures at the police station.

SHE SET THE FLAG ON FIRE DURING THE NIGHT

The incident occurred at night at Kurşunlu Square in the Menteşe district. According to the information obtained, a woman checked the surroundings and then set fire to the Turkish flag hanging in front of a store using a lighter.

The suspect, who walked away from the scene after burning the flag, was noticed by the store owners who came to open their business in the morning.

Upon the store owners reporting the situation to the police, an investigation into the incident was initiated.

SECURITY CAMERAS WERE EXAMINED

Following the report, teams from the Provincial Police Department's Security Branch were dispatched to the area. Police teams began examining the security cameras of businesses in the vicinity where the incident took place.

During the examinations, it was determined that the person who set the flag on fire was a woman named A.A. The identified suspect was detained in an operation carried out by the teams.

SUSPECT'S STATEMENT REVEALED

A.A., who was taken into custody, was referred to the courthouse after the completion of her procedures at the police station.

It was stated that in her statement to the police, the suspect claimed she did not have any illness, but also said that she had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia at a hospital and that a report had been issued about her for this reason.

It was reported that A.A. claimed in her statement that she burned the Turkish flag for this reason.

It was reported that the judicial process initiated against the suspect is ongoing.

AHMET ARAS: “NO DISRESPECT CAN BE TOLERATED”

Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras also made a statement on his social media account following the incident.

Stating that the Turkish flag is a symbol of independence, unity, and solidarity, Aras condemned the incident.

Aras used the following expressions in his statement:

“I condemn in the strongest terms the ugly attack carried out against our glorious Turkish flag in our Menteşe. No disrespect can be tolerated toward our crescent-and-star flag, which is the symbol of our independence, our unity and solidarity, and the legacy of our martyrs. I believe that the person responsible for the incident will be identified as soon as possible and will receive the necessary response before the law.”

STATEMENT ALSO CAME FROM MHP

MHP Menteşe District Chairman Kadir Türk also called for the incident to be investigated in all its aspects and for the necessary judicial proceedings to be applied against those responsible.

Stating that the Turkish flag is a symbol of the nation's independence, sovereignty, and love for the homeland, Kadir Türk made the following assessment:

“Any attack or disrespect toward our crescent-and-star flag is a clear insolence toward the common values of our nation.”
