Journalist Fatih Altaylı has brought a striking claim to the agenda regarding the "money laundering" investigation being conducted into the Sarıgül family. Altaylı alleged that Emir Sarıgül has become a whistleblower in the case, in which 19 people, including MP Mustafa Sarıgül's sons Ömer and Emir Sarıgül, have been arrested.
In his column, Altaylı wrote that according to claims he stated were being discussed in judicial and business circles, the investigation has deepened with information provided by a "very important whistleblower." Altaylı conveyed the claim that this person is Emir Sarıgül.
The article alleged that during his interrogation, Emir Sarıgül provided detailed information regarding his family's financial dealings and that this information facilitated the work of the prosecutors conducting the investigation. Altaylı stated that this claim is explained in the corridors as being due to him "being resentful toward his father."
Altaylı also wrote that the investigation began with complaints from certain business people with ties to Germany, and subsequently extended to the family of Emir Sarıgül's ex-wife and a company of German origin. The article also included the claim that the investigation could expand further and that new names could be included in the file.
The relevant section from Altaylı's article is as follows:
"There was a terrible American film in the late 1980s or early 1990s. I don't remember if it was shown in Turkey. Its name was 'Family Sins'. After this introduction, let's come to our main topic. The investigation regarding the Sarıgül family is progressing by expanding.
In this investigation, our criticism of Murat Ağırel's arrest, at least in terms of the questions and accusations directed at him during the prosecutor's interrogation, should not be taken to mean that we are defending the other suspects.
The investigation, which began with the complaints of some 'business people' who did not feel the need to hide that they were 'laundering money' in Germany, extended to the family of the eldest son Emir Sarıgül's ex-wife, and from there to a company of German origin, the owners of the Titanic hotels. Will it expand further? It seems possible. Other surprise names may also be included in the investigation.
As you know, while Ömer Sarıgül, who came to the agenda with his wife's demand for 1.5 billion TL in compensation and 3.3 million TL in monthly alimony in the divorce case, his mother Aylin Kotil, and some other names were detained on the first day, Emir Sarıgül, whom the public had the opportunity to get to know closely due to his relationships with Sibel Can and Buket Aydın, surrendered after hiding for a few days and explained his late surrender by saying he was 'waiting for his lawyer to return from abroad'.
Already, even at the investigation stage, the reason the Sarıgül family has become 'convicted' or 'indefensible' in the eyes of society is largely the wealth of Mustafa Sarıgül's two sons, which is not commensurate with their ages and jobs.
Now I want to share with you a claim that is being discussed in judicial and business circles.
Quite reliable sources claim that there is a very important whistleblower in the Sarıgül investigation and that thanks to the information provided by this person, the investigation is progressing rapidly and deepening in an unexpected way.
However, what is truly surprising are the claims regarding the identity of the whistleblower. Some pens close to the government had brought this up before, and frankly, I had met it with skepticism.
If what is being told in the corridors and business circles is true, this whistleblower is none other than Emir Sarıgül. It is very hard to believe that a child would do this to his father, who is the reason for his existence and even likely his wealth, but...
According to the claims, Emir Sarıgül provided very detailed information about his family's financial matters during his interrogation and made the job of the prosecutors conducting the investigation very easy. Why he shared this information, which in a sense will 'burn himself too', is explained by him 'being very resentful toward his father'.
And a remake of the terrible Hollywood production Family Sins is being shot again in Turkey today.
In the original film, there was a murder; if what is told and discussed in the Turkish version is true, it is a disgrace."
