Striking claim regarding two pilots in the Libya crash of a business jet owned by Hamdi Akın: 'Under the influence of alcohol...'

An arrest warrant has been issued for two pilots in the investigation into the crash in Libya of a Cessna 680A Citation Latitude business jet, registered as TC-AKF, which is stated to be owned by Akfen Holding Chairman Hamdi Akın.

The business jet, which reportedly took off from Istanbul Atatürk Airport at 05:45 in the morning, veered off the runway while landing at Misrata International Airport. Following the accident, a fire broke out on the plane, and the aircraft sustained heavy damage.

It was reported that the two pilots and one cabin crew member on board survived the accident, and there were no passengers on the business jet at the time of the incident.

ALCOHOL DETECTION IN THE INVESTIGATION

According to Airport Haber, the Libyan Public Prosecutor's Office shared the initial findings regarding the accident with the public. The statement indicated that teams examined the wreckage of the plane and evaluated air traffic control records and meteorological data from the time of the flight and landing.

The Prosecutor's Office announced that the statements of the air traffic control personnel who were on duty during the aircraft's approach and landing process were also taken. It was stated that the flight crew was questioned 24 hours after the accident, and it was determined within the scope of the investigation that the captain pilot and the co-pilot were under the influence of alcohol.

The statement emphasized that flying under the influence of alcohol is contrary to national and international aviation rules and provisions regarding public safety. It was stated that this situation endangered not only the crew but also the aircraft, the airport, and the people using the airport.

Following the findings obtained in the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for the captain pilot and the co-pilot as a precautionary measure. It was reported that technical and forensic examinations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the accident.

The TC-AKF registered business jet is stated to be operated by Istanbul-based BKNJET and is part of the Akfen Holding fleet. It was noted that the plane, which caught fire after veering off the runway, became largely unusable due to the fire.
