UAV attack on Turkish ship carrying coal to Trabzon! 1 dead, 3 injured

Security risks for commercial vessels in the Black Sea are escalating. The Turkish-flagged dry cargo ship "Mv Reyhan Sarı," which set sail from Russia's Port of Taman to deliver coal to Trabzon, was targeted by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) / drone attack off the coast of Novorossiysk. One engine room crew member lost their life in the attack, while 3 other personnel were injured. It was alleged that the attack occurred in international waters off the coast of Samsun in the Black Sea. It was learned that the ship retained its navigational capability following the attack.

The Turkish-flagged cargo ship "Mv Reyhan Sarı," registered at the Istanbul port registry with IMO number 9543342, was attacked off the coast of Novorossiysk while en route to discharge its coal cargo, loaded at Russia's Port of Taman, in Trabzon.

According to information obtained, the attack carried out by an unmanned aerial vehicle caused material damage to the ship, and 1 Turkish crew member working in the engine room lost their life at the scene. It was learned that the 3 personnel injured in the attack were transferred to the nearest medical facilities in the region following initial intervention, and their treatment is ongoing.

While security measures have been increased on the ship following the attack, it was reported that search-and-rescue and technical investigation efforts are continuing in the area where the incident occurred. Official statements from the competent authorities regarding the incident and the health status of the personnel are awaited.
