Van protests spread to Siirt, many detained
Many people were detained during incidents in Siirt following a call for a protest march by the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party.
Following the decision to revoke the "restored prohibited rights" of Abdullah Zeydan, who was elected as a candidate for the DEM Party with 55 percent of the vote, and the subsequent awarding of the certificate of election to the Justice and Development Party candidate Abdulahat Arvas, who received 27 percent of the vote, the DEM Party called for protests to oppose the decision.
Police intervened against a group that wanted to protest and march in Siirt after they refused to disperse despite warnings.
Many demonstrators were detained during the intervention, which involved the use of pepper spray.
Among the demonstrators were DEM MP Sabahat Sarıtaş, the mayoral candidate, party officials, and numerous party members.
