Shocking footage: Teacher at daycare center abuses 21-month-old baby!

In Gaziantep, a teacher named Betül K. at a private daycare center slapped a sleeping 21-month-old baby, M.D.Ö. While the incident was captured on security cameras, the baby's mother, lawyer Gündoğdu Özer, filed a criminal complaint against the teacher, whose employment was terminated by the daycare.

Betül K., a teacher at the daycare, slapped 21-month-old M.D.Ö. while the child was sleeping. Following the incident, Betül K. called M.D.Ö.'s mother, lawyer Gündoğdu Özer, claiming that the child had been sleeping on their cheek, which caused a mark to form on their face. When the family arrived at the daycare, they saw fingerprints on their baby's face. Consequently, the family alleged that their child had been subjected to violence, went to the hospital to obtain an assault report, and filed a complaint against the teacher. Upon reviewing the daycare's security camera footage, it was revealed that Betül K. had indeed slapped M.D.Ö.

INCIDENT ON CAMERA

The moment the teacher assaulted M.D.Ö., who developed redness on their face, was captured second-by-second on security cameras. The footage shows teacher Betül K. slapping the baby and then attempting to put them to sleep by covering them with a blanket.

'I REALIZED IT WHEN THE TEACHER CALLED ME'

M.D.Ö.'s mother, lawyer Gündoğdu Özer, stated that they realized something was wrong after teacher Betül K. called them, and that when her husband picked the child up from the daycare, they noticed redness on the child's face. Explaining that they spoke with the daycare officials but that they did not admit to the violence, Özer said they then went to the hospital to get an assault report, which stated that the redness on the face was caused by an external impact. Explaining that they subsequently filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, Gündoğdu Özer said, "I realized the incident last Tuesday after the daycare teacher called me. She said the baby was sleeping on their cheek and that a mark and swelling had formed due to sleeping. I asked her to send a photo, but the photo she sent was not satisfactory. I explained the situation to my husband, and he went and picked the child up from the daycare. My husband sent me a photo of the child. I saw fingerprints on the left cheek in the photos. We were suspicious. We wanted to get in touch with them. They never accepted the violence. We then went to the hospital and got an assault report from the doctor. I asked the doctor there, and he told me that it was an ecchymosis caused by an external blow."

Stating that she met with the daycare managers again following this development, Özer said, "At first, the daycare officials told me I was exaggerating the incident. I wanted to watch the footage of the nap time. When I watched the footage, my child is sleeping on their right cheek, and the teacher is waiting at the head of the child. My child is sleeping on their right cheek, but the cheek that received the blow is the left cheek. How does this happen? They couldn't explain it. They said they had a communication problem. I asked for all the footage. I watched all the footage. In the footage, the daycare teacher was very clearly mistreating the children. I filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor's office, and the footage was identified and examined. I will pursue this incident to the end. What they did will not go unpunished. We are working parents, and we have to leave our children somewhere. We gave them our child because we thought it was a trustworthy daycare. This is how they were treated. She slaps a sleeping baby with all five fingers and then puts the child back to sleep as if nothing happened. I learned that there are many other parents who are victims of this situation."

'TEACHER'S EMPLOYMENT TERMINATED'

On the other hand, daycare officials made a statement on their social media account. In the statement, they expressed that they were following the incident with sadness and stated that they contributed to the uncovering of the truth. The statement, which expressed that the employment of the relevant teacher was terminated once the identification work was completed, said the following:

"It is impossible to accept the inhumane behavior mentioned in the posts. Our institution has taken and will continue to take measures such as installing cameras in every part of the institution so that there are no blind spots, and training, raising awareness, and warning all teachers and caregiving staff to ensure that such behaviors never happen again. However, we would like to state with regret that despite all the care and attention shown by our institution, it has been determined in the camera recordings that a child was subjected to violence by a teacher by being slapped. Since we had not received any complaints about the same teacher, who had been working at the institution for 2 years, until today, and on the contrary, no signs of violence had been observed despite expressions of satisfaction with her, it was concluded that the allegations should be investigated in due form and a decision should be reached based on the result. In this context, all camera recordings were both taken under review by the institution's management, given to our relevant parent, and handed over to the police for the necessary judicial examinations. This matter has been sincerely pursued, and a contribution has been made to the uncovering of the truth. It was stated to our relevant parent from the very beginning that if the truth were revealed, all necessary legal requirements would be fulfilled regarding the teacher or any other relevant person. In the meantime, once the identification work was completed, the employment of the relevant teacher was terminated."

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
