Warning to AKP from Şamil Tayyar on 'Öcalan'! 'The political cost would be heavy'

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the second resolution process dubbed 'Terror-Free Turkey,' has brought the status of Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, to the agenda.

Bahçeli asked, "How will the status issue of the PKK's founding leadership be handled? If such an issue exists, and in our view it does, how will it be resolved? How will the status gap of İmralı, which serves a Terror-Free Turkey, be closed?" he asked.

While the DEM Party front, an alliance partner in the second resolution process, argues that Öcalan should be the chief negotiator, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan responded to the question of “the status of İmralı” by saying, “İmralı is currently being operated by our Ministry of Justice as necessary.” he replied.

ŞAMİL TAYYAR'S WARNING TO AKP ON ÖCALAN

As the debates regarding Öcalan continue, a notable statement came from former AKP deputy Şamil Tayyar.

Claiming that public support for the second resolution process, called 'Terror-Free Turkey,' is high, Tayyar noted that support decreases when Öcalan is placed at the center.

Regarding Öcalan's situation, Tayyar commented, “Tomorrow, for instance... If he is declared chief negotiator. If meetings are held with journalists. If İmralı turns into a dervish lodge. Then, even if all expectations regarding the process are met, the political cost will be heavy,” he remarked, issuing warnings to the AKP.

If it is said, 'Let terrorism end and let the government continue,' then it is better to keep Öcalan on the sidelines.

Because the name Öcalan alone is enough to infect the process."
