Woman leashed in Beyoğlu: 2 suspects arrested
In Istanbul's Beyoğlu district, an individual walked a woman on a leash in the street and shared the footage on social media. Following the viral spread of the images, the 2 suspects were detained by police and subsequently arrested by the court.
In Istanbul's Beyoğlu district, on Büyükhendek Street, an individual named U.Y. (27) put a leash on a woman named N.B. (57) and walked her in the street. U.Y., who shared those moments on social media, faced widespread backlash after the footage spread rapidly.
POLICE INTERVENED IN THE INCIDENT
Following the videos circulating on social media, the Istanbul Police Department's Security Branch launched an investigation into the footage. As a result of the investigation, the suspects U.Y. and N.B. were apprehended and detained by police teams.
SUSPECTS ARRESTED
After completing their statements at the police station, U.Y. and N.B. were referred to court on charges of "Inciting the Public to Hatred and Hostility or Humiliating Them" and were arrested. The suspects were sent to prison.
ACCESS BLOCK ON SOCIAL MEDIA
While reactions poured in regarding the shared video, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office issued an access block order for the content. This post, made to gain engagement on social media, caused a major public outcry.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
- A video filmed by a young couple at the historic Galata Tower in Istanbul's Beyoğlu district drew significant backlash on social media.
- The individual, who put a leash on the young woman and made her crawl on her knees, said, "Women are like wax. They become whatever you train them to be."
- The individual in the video, which was shared with the note "Obedience Girl Binding Method," asked the woman he had leashed to make a "Meow" sound like a cat.
