Yaşar Güler describes the Joint Defense Agreement in Mecca as a 'historic step'

Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler evaluated Turkey's security policies, regional developments, and cooperation in the field of defense during a meeting with district governor candidates.

Stating that Turkey is not a country that merely observes developments in its immediate geography, Güler said that Turkey has become an actor whose contribution is sought for peace and stability in a wide area extending from the Balkans to the Caucasus and from the Middle East to Africa.

Drawing attention to Turkey's strategic partnerships, Güler pointed to the Joint Defense Agreement signed in Mecca as one of the current examples of this framework. Expressing that the agreement reflects the joint will of three friendly countries, Güler emphasized that it possesses the nature of a cooperation based on collective deterrence.

This strong will demonstrated by three friendly countries, which possess critical capabilities and assets and are based on collective deterrence, is a historic step that reinforces our deep-rooted bonds of brotherhood and our mutual understanding of trust on a strategic foundation.

— Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler

Minister Güler stated that Turkey's deterrent power, the level it has reached in the defense industry, its diplomatic relations, and its strategic partnerships have strengthened the country's international position.

EMPHASIS ON A 'TERROR-FREE TURKEY'

Focusing on the goal of a "Terror-Free Turkey" in his speech, Güler said that effectiveness in foreign policy must be supported by a strong domestic front. He expressed that unity, peace, and stability within the country are as important as developments beyond the borders in the national security approach.

Güler stated that the gains achieved in the fight against terrorism are the result of sacrifices spanning many years, drawing attention to the struggle of the Mehmetçik, gendarmerie, police, and security guards. He also emphasized the importance of coordination between the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Interior, and the National Intelligence Organization.

Expressing that the process, which he stated is being carried out under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, aims to make security gains permanent and to completely remove terrorism from the country's agenda, Güler said that an important threshold has been crossed with the entry into force of the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration.

Stating that the process is being carried out without compromising on security and by observing the sensitivities of the nation, Güler noted that the goal is not limited to the field of security; it is also linked to development, social integration, and the strengthening of the state-citizen bond.

Addressing the district governor candidates, Güler expressed that it is important for civil administrators who will serve in regions affected by terrorism for many years to deliver public services to the most remote points and to strengthen the bond between the citizen and the state.
