Price hike from another cigarette group!
Following the increase in the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV), prices for cigarettes belonging to the British American Tobacco group have risen. The cheapest cigarette is now 85 TL, while the most expensive is 100 TL.
According to data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), monthly inflation in June was 1.37 percent, while annual inflation fell to 35.05 percent. Cumulative inflation for the first six months was recorded at 16.67 percent. Following these figures, the Revenue Administration (GİB) increased the Special Consumption Tax (ÖTV) rates on fuel, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco products by 15.71 percent, in line with the rise in the domestic producer price index.
Following these developments, a price hike was also applied to cigarettes belonging to the British American Tobacco (BAT) group. Erol Dündar, President of the Monopoly Dealers Solidarity Association (TBYD), announced the price increase for BAT group cigarettes in a statement on social media. With this hike, the cheapest cigarette rose to 85 TL, and the most expensive to 100 TL.
According to the updated price list, products such as Kent Switch and Kent D Range Blue Long are being sold for 92 TL, while products like Kent Blue and Kent Slims Black have reached 100 TL. All products from brands such as Rothmans and Tekel 2000 have been set at 85 TL.
While these price increases create an additional financial burden on cigarette consumers, the effects of tax hikes on tobacco products continue to be a subject of debate.
