The Ministry of Trade has issued a statement regarding the 430 euro limit applied to goods brought by passengers arriving in Turkey from abroad. Bekir Kaplan, Press and Public Relations Advisor to the Ministry, announced that this limit does not apply to personal clothing intended for the passenger's own use.
In a statement on his social media account, Kaplan noted that personal clothing and gift items brought by passengers are evaluated differently under customs legislation. According to the statement, in accordance with Article 58 of Decision No. 2009/15481 and section (B) of Annex-9, clothing and apparel items intended for the passenger's own use are exempt from customs duty.
The Ministry's statement emphasized that the 430 euro limit applies to gift items that fall outside the personal effects exemption and do not carry a commercial nature. It was stated that this limit is 150 euros for passengers under the age of 15.
It was noted that if the limit is exceeded, relevant customs taxation provisions may be applied depending on the nature and value of the goods. The statement indicated that the primary criterion is that the goods are intended for personal use and do not carry a commercial quantity or nature.
Kaplan stated, "Clothing brought by a passenger for their own use and items brought as gifts are not subject to the same rules."
