Ministry imposes penalty on 'Closing down, selling at a loss' advertisement

The Advertising Board of the Ministry of Trade has decided to impose an administrative sanction on a carpet store operating in Kadıköy, Istanbul, due to a 'Closing down. Selling at a loss' sign displayed in its window.

In a statement from the Ministry, it was noted that the sign in question had been identified as being on display for more than a year. The Board evaluated that creating the impression that the business would terminate its commercial activities constitutes an unfair commercial practice that influences the economic behavior of consumers.

As a result of the investigation, it was ruled that the practice violated the relevant provisions of the Regulation on Commercial Advertising and Unfair Commercial Practices, as well as the Law on the Protection of Consumers No. 6502. In this context, while an administrative sanction was imposed on the business, a decision was also made to remove the advertisement.

The Ministry of Trade's statement emphasized that inspections continue against directing consumers to shop through misleading discount and campaign perceptions.
