The Ministry of Trade's Advertising Board has imposed an administrative fine of 1 million 83 thousand 706 liras on a company due to discount advertisements determined to be misleading to consumers in online shopping.
Bekir Kaplan, Press and Public Relations Advisor to the Ministry, shared the results of the investigation regarding products offered for sale on an online shopping platform with phrases such as "Lowest price of the last 14 days" and "80 percent discount in the cart" in a statement on his social media account.
During the inspections, it was determined that the products in question were not sold at the high prices shown in the advertisement before the discount. Furthermore, it was assessed that the prices presented as discounted were applied continuously, and in this way, a perception of a price advantage that did not actually exist was created among consumers.
With the decision taken at the Advertising Board's meeting on September 10, 2026, in addition to the administrative fine imposed on the company, it was also decided to stop the advertisements found to be misleading.
Kaplan stated that inspections will continue with determination in order to ensure that consumers are correctly informed and to prevent misleading discount practices.
